Bryan Hand (a/k/a B. Hand ) was born and raised in Paris, Illinois. Bryan moved to the Florida Panhandle in 1993, after a 3-year stint playing tuba in the Army band. He's been an artist his entire life, focusing mainly on pen-and-ink and pencil drawings in his early work. His artistic career took a new twist in 2001 when he met local folk-art legend Woodie Long, who inspired Bryan to start painting. You can spot Bryan's artwork at such Santa Rosa Beach hotspots as The 3 Thirty 1 Cafe, the SeaBar, and the famous Red Bar in Grayton Beach, where the front door itself is a work of B. Hand art. Other local businesses have commissioned Bryan's artwork for his fresh and often witty logos. Bryan's talent is most vividly expressed in his paintings and drawings that are inspired by his love of music. Bryan cites music, particularly jambands, as The Major Influence in his artwork. Bryan's dual loves of music and art have led to artistic collaborations with several local bands, including Dread Clampitt and the Waco Ramblers. His paintings of musicians captured in mid-performance are among his most sought-after work. Other influences include R. Crumb, Ralph Steadman, Pushead, Michael Everett, Stanley Mouse, Rick Griffin, politics and children. Bryan considers local artists Woodie Long and Billie Gaffrey to be his artistic mentors.
